I've long had an interest in large mines.
The engineering challenge to dig such a hole is fascinating.
Imagine digging the first scoop to start such a hole....
This the Bagdad copper mine in Arizona.
The airstrip is on a mesa right next to the town.
A large solar farm alongside.
I had wanted to climb to a high altitude,
to show the whole scene in perspective,
Just showing this closeup of a mine makes it look like an environmental mess,
but really it's such a small spot in this enormous wilderness.
On the other side of the mountain you wouldn't even know it was here....
But today was too rough and windy to stay up long....
