Arrived Reserve, NM airfield, in a beautiful valley, and just in time for a fly before sundown. But the gate was locked....., and no phone number to get the combination. Tried the airfield elevation as shown on the Sectional Chart, 6360, but no go.... Too late to find the sheriff and get the code, so just camped....
Beautiful quiet drive south with little traffic, through beautiful country. SW New Mexico is a hidden treasure! At Silver City the wind was absolutely blasting.... I had wanted to fly from nearby Whiskey Creek, just for the novelty of the name, but no way possible, and the forecast to be wind for a week.....
Wind was also blasting on the drive across to Tucson, Arizona. So much dust sometimes that zero visibility.... A bit of a worry in such a cross-wind with this lightweight trailer, but no problems, followed steady as could be...
Continued on to San Manuel airfield, where tomorrow I was going to meet up with Ron, who was one of the first to replace the slats on his 701 with VGs.
Turns out Saturday is their traditional get-together at the airfield, so a half a dozen flyers sitting around and discussing aircraft and BS'ng and solving the worlds problems. Just like Sunday at my home airfield in Australia.... Still too much wind for a comfortable flight....
