Escalante, Utah

07 Sep 2014

This part of southern Utah has some of the most fantastic scenery anywhere.  The long road from Hanksville to Bryce Canyon is an endless variety of spectacular rock formations.....  Not good flying country, cause it's so rugged that couldn't even get a 4wd in for a rescue if needed....  Difficult driving, because very winding and narrow and often steep drop-offs for hundreds of feet down, with no guard rails....

Found this camping place in a clearing at the summit, 9600 ft, cool and treed after all that desert.

Flying from Escalante airfield.

Frightening roads....
.
Exquisite inaccessible waterfall

Thunderstorm coming, so time to pack up.
